Will you accept the challenge? The 2016 Get Fit Texas State Agency Challenge that is! This event provides an opportunity for state employees to get active for an agency-to-agency competition. By accepting the challenge, state employees take on being physically active for 150 minutes per week for at least six of the 10 weeks of the Challenge.
In the spirit of friendly competition, the Statewide Wellness Coordinator at the Department of State Health Services will track the completion percentage for each state agency and recognize the agencies in each size category (small, mid-size and large) with the highest completion percentage as the Fittest State Agency in Texas! Trophies and bragging rights will follow!
Beginning January 17, 2016 and continuing through March 26, 2016, participants can log their physical activity time and track their progress on the Get Fit Texas online physical activity tracker at www.GetFitTexas.orgEmployees can register for the Get Fit Texas State Agency Challenge between January 5 and January 31, 2016, although the challenge doesn’t actually start until the 17th.
Additional information about the Challenge and instructions for joining can be found online at www.wellness.state.tx.us/GetFitTexas.htm or by contacting the DSHS Statewide Wellness Coordinator, Rocky Payne at 512-776-3672 or via e-mail at Rocky.Payne@dshs.state.tx.us.
It’s time to lace up those shoes, join the program, and show the state that Texas Southern University is the Fittest State Agency in Texas!

It’s the last moth of the year, let’s make it a great one! December is a great time to tie up loose ends, de-clutter, and make a final push to accomplish 2015 goals. The holiday season can also be a bit stressful, and the Employee Assistance Program is here to help. They are free, confidential, and available 24/7 to all employees and their eligible family members. Call (713-500-3327) or visit UTEAP.org to learn more.

Texas Southern University State Employee Charitable Campaign

Dear TSU Family:

We are excited, once again, about the opportunity to be part of a life-changing experience for thousands of people.  Through your support of a wide variety of charities through the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC), we will contribute to improve the quality of life for people in local communities, across the country, and around the world.  Each fall, employees of state agencies throughout Texas enjoy the benefit of giving millions of dollars to many of their favorite charities through an annual workplace giving campaign.  In 2014, over 40,000 state employees participated, contributing more than $9,000,000 for charitable organizations.
