What We Do

The Employee Relations & Compliance unit works collaboratively with the Office of General Counsel to monitor University activities to ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, including, but not limited to, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA), Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended (Title VII), and guidelines and standards established by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Department of Labor (DOL) and the Office for Civil Rights (OCR).

In addition, the Employee Relations & Compliance unit is also charged with coordinating the drafting, editing and implementation of all University policies and procedures (Manual of Administrative Policies and Procedures – MAPP), and also oversees the University’s training and development initiatives on all policies. Along with the above-delineated tasks, employee relations & compliance also includes processing visa petitions for foreign national employees, as well as facilitating the reorganization and/or reduction-in-force (RIF) process. This unit is also responsible for investigating administrative complaints, including sexual harassment and discrimination, and also coordinates the University grievance procedures.

When conflicts arise, the Employee Relations & Compliance unit provides advice, counseling and guidance to supervisors and employees on all employee-relations matters. The Director of Human Resources is responsible for overseeing all employee compliance matters and recommends appropriate action for non-compliance. In conducting investigations and handling employee relations issues, the Employee Relations & Compliance unit shall maintain objectivity, integrity, and confidentiality to the extent allowed by law. The office staff shall also avoid any conflicts of interests in the performance of their duties.
